Hotel Diorama

Fifteen shops in one street form a hotel with a lobby, breakfast room and fourteen bedrooms for festival guests, who stay overnight in a shop window.
Context
Motel Mozaïque is well known festival of music, visual arts and theatre. It was organized for the first time when Rotterdam was Cultural Capital of Europe in 2001. The municipal centre for contemporary art TENT. invites artists to design or create sleeping places for the guests of the festival. The logo of the festival is a white bed, symbolizing the hospitality of the city and the festival. CONCEPT Observatorium wanted the city and it's inhabitants to have an immediate relation with the guests. How can the city invite people without creating a separate place for them? Inbetween the venues of the festival is a fancy shopping street; Van Oldebarneveldtstraat. During the day it is lively street, at night the semi public space of shops is without life.

We asked the shop owners if we could have the keys and use their premises for hosting the visitors of the festival.
